Family Therapy

What is Family Therapy?
Family therapy is an evidence-based form of counseling designed to help families improve communication, strengthen relationships, and navigate challenges together. Families are complex, and when one person is struggling, the effects are often felt throughout the entire family system. Family therapy provides a safe and supportive space where each family member can feel heard, understood, and empowered to create positive change.
At Path to Change Counseling Center, we don't believe families are broken. We believe families can become stuck in patterns of communication, conflict, or misunderstanding that leave everyone feeling frustrated, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward. Therapy helps families better understand one another, develop healthier ways of interacting, and create a stronger, more connected family system.
We don't focus on blaming one person or identifying a "problem child." Instead, we work collaboratively with the entire family to understand relationship dynamics, recognize strengths, and develop practical solutions that promote growth and healing.
Depending on your family's needs, we may incorporate approaches such as:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help family members respond to difficult emotions with flexibility and compassion
- Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) to improve communication and strengthen relationships
- Structural Family Therapy to understand family roles, boundaries, and patterns of interaction
- Trauma-Informed Therapy to help families heal from difficult experiences in a safe and supportive environment
- Parent Training and Behavioral Interventions to support children and adolescents with emotional or behavioral challenges
Family therapy can help with a wide range of concerns, including:
- Parent-child conflict
- Communication difficulties
- Behavioral concerns in children and adolescents
- Anxiety and depression affecting the family
- Divorce and blended family challenges
- Trauma and family crises
- Grief and loss
- Sibling conflict
- ADHD and neurodivergence
- Life transitions and stress
- Emotional regulation difficulties
- Strengthening family relationships
At Path to Change Counseling Center, our goal is not simply to reduce conflict—we want to help families better understand one another, strengthen their connections, and create a healthier, more supportive environment where every family member can thrive. We are committed to providing compassionate, collaborative, and evidence-based care that helps families move forward together.
